Bordeaux is a fascinating holiday destination - and not just for wine buffs.
The city has a long, rich past reflected in its historic architecture and UNESCO World Heritage status, and also enjoys some beautiful natural surroundings.

For holidaymakers, the hardest part of a Bordeaux villa holiday is fitting in everything you might want to do into a short space of time.

The great grape hunt

Bordeaux's wines are famous around the world - and there are plenty of wine trails and related tours and events to indulge in while on a holiday in the area.

Its main wine-producing facilities are located a short way out of the centre of the city. You can choose to book a tour operator for guided drives, walks and tastings in the most important parts of the region, or build your own wine trail to follow.

Some of the main routes to meander along include the Graves Road to the south, the Hillside Road to the east, the Chateaux Road to the north and the Heritage Road, which can be found in the Libournais region.

The Entre-deux-Mers is the largest of the wine-producing sectors of Bordeaux and boasts the Fortified Towns Road for an exploration of a wide array of red and white wines.
Alternatively, you may want to combine your wine tour with a round of golf, a trip to a spa or a look at some of the most historic parts of Bordeaux.

Eat, shop and relax

Elsewhere in Bordeaux, there is plenty to do in the way of dining and shopping.

You can expect to have some top-quality wines with your meal at one of Bordeaux's excellent restaurants.

If you choose to go shopping, make sure to try out the local cheese and chocolate - and it's possible you will also find the perfect accompaniment to either of these in a nice bottle of wine!
As Bordeaux is set in the middle of some beautiful countryside, you may also want to go on drives and excursions to immerse yourself in the wonderful natural scenery, and perhaps watch a sunset or two.
