With an abundance of iconic landmarks and historical sites of interest, as well as an unparalleled range of exquisite cuisine and charming cafés, Paris is a stunning city to visit. Testimony to the French capital’s magical allure, it continues to prove to be one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.
However, although it’s worth visiting such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, Paris also has a wealth of entertainment opportunities on offer, which are a great alternative to the usual attractions. Indeed, not only do the many Parisian festivals and annual events give people the chance to mingle with the locals, but they’re also a great way to experience for yourself the city’s passion for life.
Of the many events that take place, the Chinese New Year celebrations are among the most lively and colourful. Held at the end of the January, people from across the city gather along the street to view the vibrant parades and processions. Additionally, many of Chinese restaurants participate in the festivities, offering up evening entertainment for their customers.
As everyone knows, Paris is a city for lovers. As such, the Festival of St Valentine is designed to offer up the perfect romantic conditions. In fact, with the city reassigning many of its illuminated announcement boards to display romantic messages, it’s a great opportunity to let your partner, and the city, know your true feelings.
Another event not to be missed is the Foire du Trone. Cited as one of biggest fairs that France has to offer, it draws up to around five million people annually. Held in May, it has been around for over 1,000 years and is definitely an interesting attraction to visit. Incorporating an amusement park and live performances, it’s also an ideal place to take the children.
July sees the most important holiday in the country – Bastille Day - take place. Celebrating the commencement of the French Revolution and the storming of the Bastille, the event is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in France’s rich history. Alongside military parades and official ceremonies, there are also street performances and festivities taking place.
The Autumn Festival is also well worth a visit. Held annually for four months of the year (September to December), it’s a giant celebration of the arts, including a selection of literature, poetry, film and theatre from across the globe. The city sees a number of venues hosting various shows and performances, whilst a highlight is the outdoor jazz festival, which lasts for a month and is the largest of its kind in the world.
Therefore, if you want to visit one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, but you are interested in doing something a bit different when you get there, it can prove worthwhile to check out the city’s annual events guide. Coupled with the stunning restaurants, lively Parisian nightlife and selection of hotels in Paris, there really is so much on offer that can help ensure you make the most of your visit.
