Pros:
Good nights sleep in quiet surroundings
Cons:
Not in the middle of all attractions for those looking to walk everywhere
|
|
As our taxi pulled up to the hotel I thought we were going to be too far away from all the excitement of Rome. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and preferred the quiet charm to the hustle bustle of main street Rome.
The entry was attractive and we were greeted nicely by the front desk. They quickly checked us in then took our luggage up to our room. We came up shortly by elevator and found that the room was very nice sized and had plenty of room for all of our luggage. We had a large picture window that looked onto the street down below but never once heard traffic. Just feet away was a small piazza/park that families in the area would sit and talk as the kids ran around. They had a little food kiosk there too.
The room was clean along with the well equipped private bathroom. We had a large bed that had drawers and lamps on both sides, and a medium sized TV across from the bed.
There is a nice garden patio upstairs that has some nice views of the Vatican and the area.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay again!

A refreshing change from staying in Rome, avoiding all the hectic-business made for a nice couple nights.
The hotel had a feel like you were out in the country with the golf course that surrounds most of the building. Laying out by the pool for a few hours was pleasant plus there were waiters who delivered drinks or snacks to your chaise lounge.
The rooms were large and the decor was typical of Sheratons, nicely done and not too sterile. The beds were large and comfortable enough and when you closed your drapes it kept out all light.
We did not eat at the hotel so I have not information on the food but there was a nice little shopping center about a 5 minute walk from the hotel that had a restaurant with good food and was very lively the night we were there.
I was with a tour group and we took up the whole bar the drinks were very expensive but the bartender was full of personality and all had a good time.
The hotel was busy with conventions and everyone seemed content to stay here.
The hotel has a shuttle bus that leaves from the front of the hotel and drops you off near Piazza Venizia and the Capitoline Building. We had plenty of time to hang out in Rome and see all the major sites but have to admit, it was nice to get back to a quieter pace.
I would recommend this hotel for those who prefer to stay out of crowds. When I found we were going to stay here I was a little hesitant since it was about 15 minutes from all the attractions, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise!

Recommended by friends who stayed at Hotel de Champs du Mars that it was THE PLACE to stay in Paris so we booked a room for 4 nights. We got a little lost as we left the Metro station and ended up taking a long walk around the block to the hotel. It would not have been bad except having to lug our bags that were starting to get heavy. We arrived in less than 10 minutes.
The reception was friendly ready and checked us in immediately even though we arrived mid morning. We put our luggage in the lift and walked upstairs. The lift was very small but at least they had one.
The room was very nice! It had colorful silk wallpaper that made the room attractive. There was a good sized armoire, TV, small table and chairs, and the bathroom was larger than we expected and had a decent hairdryer.
What really makes this hotel is its location, just 1 building from Rue Cler where you get a very real glimpse into how Parisians work and live. The small street is pedestrian only (except for businesses that have stuff brought in to sell) and is loaded with French ambiance. There are flower markets with colorful flowers lining the front of the shop as with fruit markets with every color imaginable in boxes inside and out. Our favorite is a corner Patisserie (don't remember the name) that we would stop by for a morning treat and small restaurants and cafe's intermittently. We tried most of them and never had a bad meal.
If you like to ride bikes, almost outside the doors of the hotel is a Velib' station with bikes you can rent at unbelievable cheap prices.
The Eiffel Tower was a short walk, and the Metro is only a couple minute walk if you don't get lost, and you can get to any attraction in a short time from there.
I would definitely consider this hotel if you are planning a trip to Paris!

The Locanda Ca' Le Vele was the most perfect place to stay. Away from the crowds of San Marco down a quiet walkway, it's about a 2 minute walk from the Ca' d Oro vaparetto stop. The rooms all have classical Venetian decor with silky fabric wall coverings, Murano glass chandeliers in each room and Murano glass mirrors. The bathrooms even in the smaller rooms are quite large with strong running water though the shower was small (typical for Venice). Intricately painted armoires had complimentary safes in them.
The staff went out their way to make you feel at home. Always there to answer any questions about what to see and do, about the history of the area, and just chat in general. They do not have a dining area in the facility but we enjoyed having breakfast brought to our room. There is a nice antique table and chairs to sit at when you are done they will come pick up the trays. Breakfast was typical with croissants and other pastries or breads, jams, cheese spread, coffee, tea or chocolate (excellent chocolate).
We booked the smaller room that was nice but the doors were open to the suite next door (it was not occupied) so I went to take a look. The suite was huge and had a balcony that overlooked a small canal with a Venetian bridge that is characteristic to Venice. At the time we were there was some construction on the canal but we never heard noise from it. If you have the spare money it would be worth it to stay in the suite but you still can't go wrong with the less expensive rooms.
We absolutely loved the location, there were plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from, even a McDonald's right around the corner for those who miss American fast foods. We found a little gyro restaurant in the area that would outdo any expensive restaurant in taste. The seasonings were out of this world! Sorry I don't remember the name of it but it's the only gyro place we saw. There are plenty of shops to browse thru also. A supermarket is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel, the perfect place to pick up bottled water, sandwiches, and local foods. We would pick up our own sandwich items, and salads and find a scenic area to sit and eat.
The street with shops and restaurants will also take you on a fun little walk all the way to San Marco Square, the Rialto Bridge and the rail station. You must stop and look into some of the historical churches and buildings along the way, you will find beautiful ceiling frescos, marble sculptures, and ornate artwork.
If taking a trip to Murano, Burano or any of the smaller islands it's about a 5 minute walk to the Vaparetto and it will save you about 30 minutes of travel time or more from this stop. Go a little early and visit the church by the dock it's spectacular.
The Ca' Le Vele was a beautiful hotel and great location; we would definitely stay there again.
